Nixatel chief executive Russell Quigley has been selected to represent it@cork in Cork County Council’s IT trade mission to Chicago in early 2012.

The software innovator was chosen following the recent launch of the it@cork Innovation That Matters initiative, which aims to identify, recognise and promote innovation in Irish companies. This initiative is led by it@Cork, Bord Gais Networks, Cork County Council and Barlogue Consultancy Services.

According to Russell Quigley , CEO at Nixatel – “Our innovative software application can tell you which taxis are available, you then tap on the taxi you want, before being presented with a window showing the drivers photograph, their PSV licence, languages spoken, vehicle type and accepted payment methods. In light of recent controversy surrounding taxi driver regulation in Ireland, Pickacab will serve to protect both the user and the taxi driver because our application is traceable.”

The Chicago trade mission is a unique opportunity to meet with decision makers, potential partners and future customers in the US and ideally will present Nixatel with an opportunity to further develop their innovative idea.

“We need to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship to drive growth in the Irish economy. It is widely recognized that our economic recovery will be export-led, and with this in mind, it@cork and Cork County Council wish to support innovative concepts that will create new market opportunities for our SMEs and lead to employment growth. “Innovation that Matters” will serve as a showcase of technological innovation in Ireland, both within established companies and start-ups”, explains Denis Collins, Chairman, it@cork.
