Tábhacht an Fhiontraíochta sna Ceantair Ghaeltachta agus Todhchaí na Gaeilge
I gceantair Ghaeltachta na hÉireann, a bhfuil cáil orthu mar gheall ar a gcuid oidhreachta saibhir Gaeilge, tá cláir nuálacha cosúil le Cumasú ag borradh chun fiontraithe ban a chur chun cinn. Sheol Empower agus Údarás na Gaeltachta an clár Cumasú chun acmhainní tábhachtacha a chur ar fáil do mhná Gaeltachta i Corcaigh, Ciarraí, Maigh Eo, Gaillimh, agus ceantair eile. Tugann Cumasú cúrsaí páirtaimseartha gnó agus meantóireacht phearsanta ar fáil chun forbairt inbhuanaithe a spreagadh sna pobail.
Tá tábhacht an chláir seo níos faide ná spriocanna eacnamaíocha amháin—bíonn ról ríthábhachtach aige i gcaomhnú agus i gcur chun cinn na Gaeilge. Trí fhás gnó a chothú i gceantair Ghaeltachta, cuidíonn Cumasú le húsáid laethúil na Gaeilge a spreagadh i suíomhanna gairmiúla nua-aimseartha. Is gá an teanga a athbheochan trí fhíor-chleachtais i saol an phobail mar chuid den phróiseas seo, rud a spreagann rannpháirtíocht teanga agus tacaíocht eacnamaíoch d’fhiontraithe teaghlaigh.
Cuireann an tacaíocht a léirítear do chláir den chineál seo gealltanas níos leithne in iúl d’oidhreacht chultúrtha agus teanga na hÉireann. De réir mar a chuireann níos mó fiontraithe beocht i gceantair Ghaeltachta, cuirfidh siad bonn faoin athrú geilleagrach agus faoi thodhchaí rathúil na Gaeilge i saol sóisialta agus gnó na hÉireann.

Supporting Gaeltacht Entrepreneurship and the Irish Language’s Importance in these initiatives
Ireland’s Gaeltacht regions, known for their Irish-speaking heritage, have recently become focus areas for new, innovative programmes such as the Cumasú initiative, aiming to support female entrepreneurs. Cumasú, ran by Atlantic Technological University and Munster Technological University, funded by Údarás na Gaeltachta, is supporting women in Gaeltacht areas by providing them with vital resources to start or scale their business ventures. This initiative empowers women across Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Mayo, Galway, Donegal and other Gaeltacht areas, offering online part-time entrepreneurial modules and personal mentorship to support them in growing sustainable local enterprises.
These initiatives go beyond economic goals—they also play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the Irish language. By fostering business growth in Irish-speaking regions, Cumasú and Udarás encourage the daily use of Irish in modern settings, for example, it is hugely encouraged and incentivised to incorporate Irish into their websites when being developed. The revitalization of the language through practical, real-world applications is essential for its preservation, as community members engage in Irish while creating a business.
As more entrepreneurs bring life to Gaeltacht regions, they secure not only economic resilience but also the preservation of the Irish language in Ireland’s social and business landscapes. We were thrilled with our Cumasú 2024 cohort and are looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of female entrepreneurs next year!
