With each passing week we are all continuing to adapt to this ‘new normal’ that we have found ourselves in.

This week we spoke with our client Dr Derry Fitzgerald, Chief Technical Officer of AudioSourceRE. Derry has an extensive track record in developing leading-edge sound source separation technologies and has over 18 years of experience in the field.  AudioSourceRE is the culmination of 18 years of research into sound separation by Derry. The company looks to become the leading developer of high-quality music de-mixing software for music production, post-production studios, DJ’s, producers, artists, and musicians. They produce high quality pro-audio products that are the best sounding, most flexible and creative software products available on the market.

It is important that we strike the right work life balance during this time and this is something that Derry believes helps when working from home. He admits that the first week working from home was an adjustment period, there were times when he found himself sitting at the laptop saying he would just give it another five minutes before finishing up for the day. However, he soon realised that this was not a sustainable way to work. For Derry keeping to a daily schedule has made this overall transition easier. By mimicking the hours he would work in the office and taking your breaks as he would at work, Derry believes you fall into a better routine. Exercise is also important, taking time out to go for a walk each day removes you from the work from home setting and ensures that the balance between work and home is restored.

Derry admits that it took himself and those working in AudioSourceRE about two weeks to fully settle into working from home. In the week or so prior to the business having to shift to a remote way of working they were due to have two new employees start in the office. This was something that needed to be addressed immediately as they had to be integrated into the business remotely as opposed to them coming into the office in the Rubicon which would be the typical routine. Communication is key when working remotely and AudioSourceRE is utilising platforms such as Slack and Skype in order to maintain communication between staff. There are Skype meetings held each morning in which the daily agenda is set out. This allows for everyone to understand their tasks they must undertake for the day and also provides an opportunity for any possible concerns to be voiced. After this meeting the staff have a better understanding of the day ahead, similar to what they would practise within the office. Throughout the day contact is maintained through Slack in order to ensure that the constant communication that happens in the office can be reflected through a platform remotely.

Remaining positive as a business can be difficult in times of uncertainty. Luckily for AudioSourceRE they secured a round of investment funding at the end of 2019. Derry notes that this has been a great boost for the company as they do not have to worry about the financial implications the current pandemic may bring to the business. The funding will last them for the year so they have the opportunity to invest in updating their product and other areas of the business. At the moment they are focusing on their rm goals for the business to ensure that they will be in a position to take advantage of the market when the economy begins to pick up again in the near future. Focusing on the long term goals in addition to short term wins helps with the positivity levels of those working for AudioSourceRE.

Derry admits that right now there is not as much communication with their customers as previously would be. This is in part due to the fact that they are about to launch a big software update for their product. AudioSourceRE are lucky that their technology can speak for itself and makes it easier for them to explain it to new and potential customers. It’s simplicity allows for customers to grasp the concept of the product quickly. This pause in communications will not continue for much longer. Once the software update is complete there will be a big push in communications once again to get customers involved and on board with the new updates.

AudioSourceRE shows that although times may be testing, by striving to be better you will be prepared to take advantage of your market when life and the economy are back on track.
