RTE One’s ‘Heated’ programme puts a spotlight on Irish businesses who are achieving climate action in their innovative solutions. One such business is a past client of the Rubicon Centre, Hibra Design.

Mike is an alumnus of Enterprise Ireland’s New Frontiers Program which is run every year in the Rubicon Centre

Mike Keane, a ‘tree-hugging petrol head from Cork’, is no stranger to green solutions. His Irish automotive engineering development company, Hibra Design, tackles sustainable transport through developing bespoke, clean-technology vehicles.

In Ireland, there are more than 88,000 off-road vehicles, labouring in agricultural, fishery, forestry and other areas. Hibra Design taps into these industries, engineering new and existing off-road vehicles to be more green in their operation.

In RTÉ One’s three-part series, presenter Rónán Ó’Dáilaigh speaks to Mike about his work transforming a tractor from fossil-fuel to electric through Bord na Mona’s Accelerate Green programme.

“We tend to think about what the big change we can make is, but actually there’s often lots of small pieces of re-engineering we can do. It’s always about efficiency for me” says Mike Keane, CEO and founder of Hibra design.
