With Christmas only a mere week away, we have almost made it to the end of another year! In the last ‘Rubicon Weekly’ of 2019 we’re going to look at some resolutions that you should include on your list for your business in 2020 and beyond.
1.Be more ‘Green’
2019 has really been the year of Greta Thunberg. The Swedish teenager has not only effectively communicated on a global level about climate change but also has made us all aware of that there is a greater global need for us to act responsibility. Her work has led to her becoming the youngest ever Times’s ‘Person of the Year’. As a society we are becoming more conscious of the need for global sustainability. For businesses entering the new year and decade a focus on sustainable practices is a necessity. Small changes such as reducing paper and changing materials used for products where possible can make a big difference. By beginning to work towards a sustainable business now,you will find your business becoming more sustainable in all it’s functions from 2020 on.
2. Utilise Social Media
Social Media is going nowhere and is proving the most effective way to engage with customers. If you are neglecting the social media side of your business stop now and put it on the top of your list of resolutions! Not only is it a cost-effective way of generating knowledge of your business among your target market, it also allows for you to engage in direct communications with your customers. Social media sites are adding features that allow for increased engagement with followers such as the ability to comment on live videos. By posting to social media more people will see and learn about your business which can bring increases in revenue. Most people now spend most of their time on their phones, connect with them in a medium where you know you will be seen.
3. Look to Collaborate
For so long we have been led to believe that our competitors are our enemies. Who better to help you with any issues you may be having with your business than someone who understands exactly what you are doing? Approach the new year with the mindset that if you need help don’t be afraid to look for it. If there has been an ongoing issue with your brand or your stuck on an idea and can’t figure out the next step, reach out. There is no shame in asking for help, especially when you can get it from someone who has the knowledge and expertise to help you come to a solution.
4. Set realistic Goals
It’s easy to make a list of goals for a year when we come to January. However, when we look back at the end of the year and see that we have not made some of them it can be disheartening. This is why it’s so important to engage in realistic goal setting. By doing so you can achieve and even exceed some things that you wish to complete within the year. Start with small goals and once you achieve them add new goals to your list, by keeping goals small and adding as you go what once may seem like a mammoth task is now much more achievable.
5. Join a Networking Group
There is almost an established networking group in each locality. If you are not already a member, make sure 2020 is the year you join one. Being a part of a networking group brings many benefits that you will not see elsewhere. You have the chance to meet and have unlimited access to people within your own business area and expertise but also those who exists outside of it. These other business people may be able to offer new ideas or advice that you can then implement into strategies within your business. If they are not an expert in the area you operate there is a high chance that they know someone who does, and they can introduce you to them. Making connections broadens your businesses horizons so make sure to put that on your resolution list!
6. Learn to say ‘No’
One of the hardest things to do as a business owner is to say ‘no’. However, there is a time when saying no has to be something you consider. Saying yes to everything takes you away from your business. By involving yourself in too many things you find yourself detached from your business but also find yourself under pressure due to committing to many things. Focus on you and your well-being and know that by saying no you are not letting anyone down. Delegate yourself effectively and take new opportunities as they come but do not find yourself unable to keep on top of everything. People will understand and will be happier that you are honest with them as they can then move on and ask someone else who will have the time and resources to truly commit.
So we have left you with some resolutions you should consider adding to your list for 2020! The ‘Rubicon Weekly’ is signing off for 2019 and we will be back in the New Year. Enjoy this Christmas Season with your family. Relax and rest up to ensure that you will be ready to jump back into your business in 2020!
